With a showdown from Philly Roller Girls' Liberty Belles and Rose City's Wheels of Justice to cap off Saturday night, ECDX's Day 2 comes to a triumphant close. Having benched jammer Mo Pain and utility Castro, the Belles were playing their roster with a hard slant towards defense, going into the half with attainable points between them.

But the Belles struggled in the second half, falling behind by more than sixty points midway through the second period. Philly's jammers were no match for Rose's front of the pack speed control, which ruled over even power jam situations. PRG's Persephone and Elle Viento put in valiant turns, while Rose City's Scald Eagle and White Flight were effective point scorers for the white and purple. Final, 131 Rose, 53 Philly.
Earlier in the evening, Charm City Roller Girls took on the Windy City Rollers, both in repeat appearances at the ECDX. This year, both squads chose to participate in WFTDA's "No Minors" beta testing--one of six bouts this year and one of three that are taking place at the East Coast Derby Extravganza. Strong jamming from Just Carol and C.C. Bang!Bang!--and even turns from Dolly Rocket and Lady Quebeam--couldn't overcome the points racked up by Varla Vendetta, Wreck N Shrew and the black, white and blue from Chicago.

While this is the second beta bout for Windy--having won against the Brew City Bruisers in April--Charm held its own against the Rollers, with both squads picking up what's sure to be the most difficult penalty for many teams to grasp under the proposed rule-set, track cut majors. Even with prior experience, Windy picked up 21 majors in the first half, against Charm's 15, while the second half evened out the penalties with 16 for Windy, 14 for Charm.
Meanwhile, the fast-paced play made for an endurance struggle at the end for Charm--compounded by the relentless prodding in the pack from Windy's physical blocking. Under the "No Minors" rule-set, much of the impact assessment of current play would result in no penalty, which means blockers have an opportunity to knock jammers around repeatedly without infraction. And Windy did that in spades finishing out the second half.
