THE LIBERTY BELLES ARE HOSTING A ROLLER DERBY CLINIC!

The Philly Roller Girls’ Liberty Belles are excited to host their first intermediate level skills and strategy flat track roller derby clinic on April 22, 2012 from 9am-2pm at Millennium Skate World in Camden, New Jersey. Come learn from and practice with long-time veterans Teflon Donna, Shenita Stetcher, Mo Pain, Persephone, Castro, Gloria Grindem, Olivia Face, Elle Viento, Alessa Evil, Ginger Vitis, Copper Top, and Heavy Flo; and newer (but super awesome) Belles: Goldy, Devoida Mercy, Eileen U. Scream, Fully Addomatic, PMS, Wendy Whiplash, and Rollanya Asse. The preliminary schedule for this ambitious, fast-paced, information-packed clinic is as follows:

    9:00-9:30 Registration, gear-up, introductions, warm-up & stretch

    9:30-10:00 Speed stride, speed drills

    10:00-11:00 Blocking & wall skills

    11:00-11:45 Jamming skills

    11:45-12:00 Snack time

    12:00-12:35 Beginning of jam strategies

12:35-1:05 Transitioning from defense to offense and from offense to defense

    1:05-1:30: Power jam strategies

    1:30-2:00 Presentations:

#1 “Line-ups and staying sane while managing a roller derby team”: Paul and PJ discuss how to make line-ups and the subtleties of managing an internally and externally competitive roster.

#2 “Is winning really everything?”: The Belles discuss their feelings on winning, losing, and getting playing time.

The clinic will be intermediate level and taught according to WFTDA rules. Therefore, participants will be required to be a member of a league that plays by WFTDA rules, and have passed the WFTDA minimum skills test.

Men's derby skaters are welcome to participate in this clinic. Women's derby participants may opt out of engaging in contact drills with men's derby skaters and instead choose to do the contact portions with women's derby skaters only. We will organize the clinic accordingly.

The clinic fee is $75 per skater. The maximum number of skating participants will be sixty. There is an observer fee of $30. For every fourteen participants from the same league, two non-skating managers will be able to attend free of charge. Online registration is available here. The proceeds will go to the Liberty Belles travel fund.

We are putting together an amazing program and hope you will join us! If you have any questions, contact This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
