Aside from WFTDA's proposed rules test, ECDX 2011 presented a storyline of a different color for the black and blue: Philly's own Liberty Belles. Holding firm at #2 in the East, Philly has lost three of its last six sanctioned bouts--with losses now to Gotham, Rose and Bay Area Derby, and wins over DC All-Stars, Texas and Charm City. Philly also lost to Gotham twice in the WFTDA National Championships in November, 2010 and once at the Eastern Regional Championships in September, 2010. A win at the Eastern Regional Championship in 2009 marks the only win the Belles have ever rung in over NY's formidable defense and deep roster. Gotham took the Belles 267-34 on Rink 3.

Meanwhile, back on Rink 2, Tampa Bay got busy hustling against a formidable Boston defense. Amid the telltale cries of "Pinch" from Beantown fans, the sound of biting nails rattled the track as a tit-for-tat showdown ended with Tampa's ultimate win by a mere 6 points to beat Boston 86-80.

ECDX 2011 saves one of the best for last, as Montreal gives Windy City a run for their money. Montreal pulled out all the toe-stops on Rink 2 for the final bout at ECDX 2011 when the number 5 East seed took on the number 1 from North Central. Leading at the half, Montreal had a full head of steam, and a full complement of neon-clad supporters lining Rink 2. But Windy's handy jamming picked up speed running into the end of the second half, leading them to a barely comfortable victory of 130-105 over the Canadians.
A well-rounded, exciting and surprising mix of bouts made the fifth annual East Coast Derby Extravaganza the most successful yet.
